Charity Sip: Four Years On

Good morning!

Today I'm pleased to announce the release of my Charity SIp; Four Years On, along with the release of 32 other great short fictions!

In 2008, Torquere Press' fantastic authors decided to support a charity with an annual short story collection called our Charity Sip blitz. In the past three years, we've donated more than $13,000.00 to charitable organizations that support GLBT causes.

For 2011, Torquere's authors have chosen the theme "Getting Better" in honor of the It Gets Better project, which helps LGBT youth understand that life as an openly queer adult is not only possible, but happening for millions of people, worldwide. More than thirty authors have written short fiction pieces and have agreed to donate all proceeds of the sales of these stories to this year's charitable organization. Torquere Press Inc. will match the authors' donations completely.

This year, we're also pleased to announce that our distribution partner, Rainbow eBooks, has agreed to be the title sponsor of our Sip collection, and will be our sole distributor outside of the Torquere Books website. Please support our sponsor by visiting them at www.rainbowebooks.com

Torquere Press and our authors truly believe we can make a difference by donating to organizations that promote awareness and equality. If you'd like to help, please support the Charity Sip Blitz and enjoy some great romance today!

Available now from Torquere Press and www.rainbowebooks.com!!! It's $2.49 for a single Sip like mine, or you can buy the whole package of them for $63.99 and save 15%!!

I decided to participate in this project this year, and I contributed a short piece of fiction entitled Four Years On to the cause. You may recognize the characters Jason and Kale from my A Thousand Words ficlet series.

~Synopsis~

Jason thought he'd left it all behind when he went to college: the family who couldn't accept him, the boyfriend he might have outgrown, the small town with even smaller minds. The past, however, catches up to him on the day of his graduation, when Jason is set to give the valedictory speech. Thanks to his new boyfriend Kale's meddling, this might just be the closure Jason needs -- for better or worse.

~Excerpt~

Jason knew he shouldn't be disappointed that his family wasn't going to be there. They'd made it pretty clear on their last visit that they condemned his choice of lifestyle. He should have probably told his parents in a better manner than having them walk in on him and Kale in flagrante delecto, but circumstances as they were had prevented Jason from preparing them ahead of time.

He doubted any matter of conversation in advance would have changed their minds. They were quite firm in their disapproval, his mother in particular, unwilling to accept that her son was gay. He wasn't sure why it bothered her so much. They'd never been the most religious family, nor the most conservative, but something about her eldest son being gay didn't sit right with his mother.

He hadn't had the courage to sit down and ask her why yet.

Jason chewed on his bottom lip. The memory was too fresh. He preferred not to think about it.

"They'll change their mind, Jase," Kale murmured, as though he was able to read Jason's mind and knew exactly what he was thinking. "They love you."

Jason's fingers stroked lightly down Kale's side before he leaned up and kissed his lover. "You'll be there. That's all I need," he replied, and he meant it.
