Comic Review: K. Sandra Fuhr

So. I stumbled upon this artist/author some time ago with her second series, "Friendly Hostility" and then had to backtrack to read "Boy Meets Boy" first and now I'm fully immersed in the third in the series "Other People's Business."

For one, her artwork has really improved. It's lovely to see how it has evolved from "Boy Meets Boy" to "Other People's Business". Her lines are very firm and defined, her characters attractive and not just visibly either. She has a real knack for creating characters that you either like or hate, or just can't decide which. But what I love most is the stories.

The first one is a slashy romance. Sorta. It's also an insane comedy. Like all her stories, there's a nice mix of the supernatural, comedy, angst, romance, and all of the above. The characters from each comic are separate, but the minor characters from one may become the major characters in the next. For instance, in Boy Meets Boy, Fox and Collin are only minor characters with brief appearances. They become major characters in Friendly Hostility. THE characters in fact. But in Other People's Business, they are again relegated to minor characters and a new set of faces make up the main cast.

Boy Meets Boy and Friendly Hostility have definite gay leanings, but what's wonderful is that Other People's Business delves into the realm of lesbians. All new territory for me. And I like it.

She updates frequently, at least every M-W-F barring the exception of some off days. And her comic is always quality. It's funny and quirky. Will make you grin, make your heart ache, make you long for each new page.

If she offered it for purchase, I would totally snatch that shit up in a heartbeat. It's not graphic or intensely erotic, but it holds my interest nonetheless.

Here are some lovely links!

Boy Meets Boy -- the best place to start. It's black and white, pencil art, looks more like a sketch and is pretty short to start, but the characters quickly suck you in and you find yourself eagerly clicking to the next page. I stayed up all night to read the entire series.

Friendly Hostility -- art has progressed to pen and paper, along with some color. Yay! Here we have the tale of best friends turned lovers, one guy who dreams of dominating the world and another guy who just wants to get laid. There's some comedy! *grins* I found Sandra in the middle of FH and waited anxiously for each update. *grins*

Other People's Business
-- in progress, with a female protagonist ya love to hate, and a cast of characters that make you swoon and smile, along with confuse the hell out of you. There's a lot of sinister going on in the background and I have no clue where it's going, but I'm enjoying the ride.

Another thing I love? She does commentary for each page in Other People's Business. It's an inside look at what went on in the page and scrolling through the comments is always a good way to find out bits and pieces of stuff you didn't get, or missed along the way.

Go. Read. Enjoy! I highly recommend.
