I've come to notice that I'm drastically unprepared when it comes to the original fiction market. Why do I know this? Because I simply don't know where people gather! I'm in the mood to read some original fiction but the only place I am familiar with is adultfanfiction.net, a place arguably even less helpful than The Pit. Now, don't get me wrong, there are a few gems to be found, but for all the crap that someone must read through, it's just not worth it.

Now, fanfiction wise, I know where to find the good stuff. I could name at least five different websites off the top of my head, some better known than others. I'm never at a loss as to where to find it. Plus, just google your favorite pairing and bam! easy as pie to try and find some new material.

Original stuff? Now that's a whole different bag of cornchips.

I've heard of... fictionpress, is it? The one very similar to fanfiction.net? I've not used it before and wondered if anyone on my f-list is familiar with it. If they find it worth their time. If there's any quality fiction to be found. I know that there are probably some livejournal communities that see significant traffic. And there are probably other sites that allow people to share original fiction. I heard someone mention Literotica once as well. Anything of worth to be found there?

So... where do you read your original fiction?

I suppose in this vein I should also talk about the slashy fiction that we also spend money on. But I think I'll save that for another post. *grins* Right now, my cheapskate self wants to find the free. *laughs* It doesn't even have to be slash as I'm open to trying new things.

Also, here's another related question. Do you even read original fiction? Or is fanfiction the only way to go?

In my personal experience, I've found that it's more difficult to find original fiction that keeps me interested and intrigued than it is to find fanfiction. (Though to be fair, this was AFF.net that I was searching...). Though, as a general rule, I've also discovered that my favorite fanfiction writers create some of the BEST original fiction (case in point, Iron Dog and what she writes under ID Locke *whistles* Amazing stuff). Still, I've found some stuff out there that I really think ought to be published... and then other things that I'd rather not give my honest opinion about....

To be honest, I'd say I read fanfiction about 5x more than I read original stuff, but still, there's value to be found in that free fiction.
