Title: A Turmoil of Trust
Universe: The Prime’s Consorts, Consortium
Rated: M
Characters: Jazz/Soundwave, Ravage
Description: Some things are instinct, and Proteus’ voice in Jazz’s audial sends a cascade of conflict through his spark.

Jazz doesn’t worry.

It’s not in his nature to worry. He doesn’t fret or get anxious. He’s a go with the flow sort of mech. He’s adaptability personified.

He doesn’t worry.

So what, then, is this feeling gnawing at his insides? Twisting and churning and tying him into knots?

He’d known Proteus would contact him. It was inevitable. It was why he’d finally grown the necessary struts and approached Optimus about the little tiny problem of his obedience coding. Optimus was getting ready to launch his first attack against the foundation of the institution, to make them realize he wasn’t here to demur to their antiquated ideas. Jazz couldn’t be a liability. So he’d addressed the problem.

Proteus’ ID code popping up in his comm queue still manages to catch Jazz by surprise. It makes a quiet trill of disquiet surge through Jazz’s lines. In two weeks, they’ll be in Polyhex for Optimus to address the Assembly. Proteus wants more than a status report, the likes of which Jazz has been dutifully sending since the coding was removed, all carefully falsified with Ultra Magnus and Prowl’s advice.

Proteus wants a face-to-face meeting, and Jazz is obligated to attend. His former master will not accept excuses. Jazz should be more than capable of sneaking away, and the implied punishment makes an echo of dread radiate through Jazz’s spark.

The message ends, and Jazz finds himself in the estate’s labyrinthine air vents.

Title: Insufficient Funds
Series: The Prime’s Consorts
Characters: Blaster, Steeljaw
Rated: K+
Description: In the wake of Soundwave’s departure and subsequent absence, Blaster worries.

Blaster is running out of money.

Worse, Blaster is running out of money and his best friend has let himself be sold to the new Prime all for the sake of the Sanctuary. Blaster can’t even do him the courtesy of not running it to the ground in Soundwave’s absence. Soundwave has sacrificed everything, and still, Blaster is running out of money.

Everything costs creds these days. It’s not just the energon. It’s the parts, the lubricants, the supplies. It’s bribing guards to look the other way when they’re sneaking refugees over borders. It’s paying medics for much needed repairs. It’s paying for new identities, and refitting frames so that they are unrecognizable. It’s paying for fares to colonies too far from Cybertron for the wealthy to reach.

It’s a lot of things that Blaster simply doesn’t have the creds to cover. His kin suffer, and Blaster can only do triage. Save this one over that one because it’s cheaper or easier or… or…

His tank churns.

Description: Blaster’s doing all he can to keep the lights on when Soundwave comes to him with an unfortunate truth.

There’s never enough of anything.

Blaster gnaws on his bottom lip as he reviews their inventory, the available funds in their secret account, and their current population. There’s not enough credits, there aren’t enough fuel filters, and there’s certainly not enough energon.

He has to find a way to increase their income. He can’t force Soundwave any further into debt than he already is. It’s not fair to him.

The light rap of knuckles on the door frame makes him look up to see Rewind loitering, a datapad clutched to his chest. Blaster can already tell from their bond he’s not going to like what Rewind has to say.

“Another one?” Blaster asks.

Rewind nods, and there’s a flicker from the camera lens attached to his head. “It’s bad.”

Frag. Another expense.

Despicable Me
Chapter Eleven

Smokescreen might be awake, or he might be dreaming, he’s not sure.

There’s a city in his rear-view mirror. It stretches toward a blue, blue sky, sunlight gleaming off metallic towers and crystal windows. He doesn’t recognize the city. It’s too large to be Kaon, too well-constructed.

Is it the past? Is it the future? Whatever it is, he’s speeding away from it, tires eating up the smooth, paved road beneath him. It stretches out for what seems to be infinite miles, and ahead of him is a growing horizon, shapes popping into view -- more buildings, mechs in the skies, a thriving metropolis.

He veers away from the city, however, taking an exit into the vast wilderness, untamed land stretching between the city behind him and the city in front of him. Smokescreen doesn’t know where he is, and he’s not sure he’s the one steering himself either.

It’s weird and a bit creepy, but he’s not afraid, and Smokescreen thinks that must be because he’s already decided this is a dream. He can’t be actually hurt in a dream. And compared to some of the other dreams he’s had, this is a nice one.

He drives.

Enticements: Sticky Sexual Interfacing, Referenced Forced Body Modification, Memory Issues
Description: All kinds of trash gets tossed in the Heap, but when Hot Rod finds a barely-alive Empurate, he can’t leave the mech to die. Without his memory, Megs has no place to go, so Hot Rod offers him a place to call home. It’s meant to be temporary, but Hot Rod never expected wanting so badly for Megs to stay.

Commission for Withersake.

Chapter One

A new visitor to the Heap might find themselves overwhelmed with the stench of the place -- old grease and caked rust and decaying energon, the reek of death and abandonment basically. Hot Rod has visited the place so often he’s blind to it now. That and he’d had the foresight to shutter his vents, and turn off his olfactory sensors.

It’s a scrapyard. Mechs should know that it’s not the cleanest place on Cybertron to be.

Still. Better than a slagpile.

Narrow furrows wind through the teetering piles of junk and scrap. Hot Rod’s carved out some of his own through the years, but every once in a while, he’ll take a route hacked up by some other Scrounge, and find something on the list.

Not his list, just the list.

Universe: The Prime’s Consorts
Characters: Ratchet, Wheeljack, Optimus Prime, Starscream
Rated: K+
Description: Wheeljack comes to visit, and as delighted as Ratchet is, he realizes much too late that it might have been a bad idea.

Ratchet is not a patient mech.

Oh, sure, when it comes to surgeries, he is as calm and methodical as any good medic ought to be, but outside of the operating room, Ratchet doesn’t have time to be patient. He hates waiting.

He especially hates waiting on other mechs. Like Wheeljack, who has made an art out of arriving late, often with style, cloaked in some noxious scientific odor and field flashing such enthusiasm and apology Ratchet immediately forgets how angry he was.

To be fair, Wheeljack’s tardiness this time around is not his fault. He can no more hurry the expansive security protocols between him and Ratchet than Ratchet can convince Cybertron to rotate a little faster.

Ratchet twists and looks up toward the doors where two guards wait with far more patience than Ratchet has. They’re eying the horizon like an assassin is going to come sprinting at Ratchet any second now.

He immediately dashes that internal hope when he considers that seeing Sunstreaker is probably part of some ploy to force his brother into good behavior.

His excitement immediately cools.

Wrist-deep in one of his many projects, Wheeljack often ignores his communication console when it beeps at him or flashes at him or makes any amount of distracting attempts to get his attention. But when the special tone Wheeljack programmed specifically for Ratchet pings at his audials, Wheeljack scrambles to answer it, sending a container of tools crashing to the floor as he lunges for the acceptance key.

He winces as the clatter of scattered tools echoes around his laboratory, but it’s a distant worry because the moment his fingers brush the key, Ratchet’s face fills the screen. Relief crashes over Wheeljack even harder than the tumbled tool chest.

Especially when Ratchet gives him that wry grin. “Catch you at a bad time?”

“Shut up,” Wheeljack says, his indicators flashing. He claws at the desk, dragging his wheeled chair around the tool detritus to get his face better in the screen. “I’ve been worried sick about you.”

Chapter Four

The mood is remarkably lighter around the table this time around. Much of the tension has lifted out of the air, and there is less a sizzling distaste for Optimus.

No one outright glares at him. Optimus considers that improvement. Especially when Jazz rises, climbing up into the center of the table no less, a small stringed instrument in hand.

“I hope you don’t mind a little entertainment with your energon,” he drawls as he holds the nyckelharpa in place and lays a flat rod against the glowing lines. “I’m going to start with something slow and melodic.”

“I, for one, am not going to protest,” Ultra Magnus says.

“I don’t think anyone else is either,” drawls Starscream, his optics glittering as he looks up at Jazz. “Provided you have any talent at that thing, I mean.”

Jazz’s lips pull in a slow, challenging smirk. “Just you wait and see, Screamer.” He drags the bar across the glowing lines, a long, mournful sound rising from the instrument. “I’m gonna knock you on your aft.”

Chapter Two

Optimus' research indicates Prowl is something of an early riser, at least, judging by his propensity to arrive at work earlier than anyone else. It edges on the side of creepy to have this sort of intimate knowledge of a mech he’s only spoken with on two occasions, but Optimus needs the advantage if he has any hope of emerging victorious.

He will not let the Senate have their way.

Optimus arrives at Prowl's assigned quarters with a morning allotment of fuel and pings the door. He could technically invite himself within, but it would be an egregious invasion of privacy.

Prowl opens the door, his face blank of expression, and the sensory panels for which Praxians are known arched high and rigid behind his shoulders. "Good morning, sir."

"Good morning." Optimus offers the cube, and Prowl takes it automatically. "I thought you might like to join me in the study. I believe there was a conversation you wished to have?"

Chapter One

Optimus Prime’s chest aches.

Everything aches, truth be told. His new frame is unwieldy, large and uncomfortable. He feels awkward and coltish, even weeks after the transformation. His center of balance has shifted, his shoulders are too broad, and he’s a good foot taller at least.

The Matrix will settle in time, they tell him, but they can’t be more specific than that. It’s different for every Prime, they tell him. It took Sentinel a decade before he fully embraced the Matrix. Prima engaged with the Matrix almost immediately.

There’s a long span of time between immediately and a decade.

Optimus rubs at his chassis, the Matrix heavier within him than it logistically should be. Heavier still is the burden now resting on his shoulders: the rulership of an entire planet and its people. He has the Senate to assist him, and various other ruling bodies, but there is none so singularly known as the Prime.

By then, it’s too late for him to do anything to stop his partner from diving at Optimus, shoving him out of the way as the blaster shot pierces the afternoon. The sound of its impact rings in Soundwave’s audials.

Time slows.

Jazz’s grunt of pain echoes abnormally loud. He and Optimus hit the ground in a clatter. Laserbeak takes off from Soundwave’s shoulder, and Ravage turns into a streak of black, cutting through the gathered crowd.

The stench of discharged plasma hangs in the stunned silence.

It was an observation, not a question. Bluestreak made a non-committal noise in response and flicked the stylus over his datapad, marking off another zone.

Prowl is in enormous pain.

Or at least he would be, if he had not dampened his sensory receptors and shunted all pain responses to a delayed queue, as Jazz had taught him. Ratchet would have a fit of epic proportions if he knew that not only could Jazz do this thing, but he had also taught it to Prowl.

It was dangerous. It put a lot of stress on his spark and on his processing capacities. Only trained medics should dampen sensory receptors because amateurs risked a serious system malfunction.

It’s not a permanent solution. It won’t work indefinitely. It’s only meant to be a temporary stopgap. The Autobots must retrieve him soon.

Wheeljack stopped being offended by the teasing that surrounds his scientific progress ages ago. The truth was, things only exploded because he wanted them to explode, and if it seemed like an accident, it was because he wanted it to seem like an accident.

The true key to being a genius was in pretending to be an idiot.

He liked his privacy, for all that he was social. He liked to push the boundaries of what was possible without Perceptor leaning over his shoulder and questioning the usefulness of an invention or Quark correcting his mathematical calculations. He liked being able to create without Prowl wandering in on the daily and asking him to weaponize it. And he preferred being able to theorize aloud without Brainstorm overhearing and adding in his outrageously ridiculous two creds worth.

Wheeljack liked his private laboratory, which was now required to be at a minimum of three hundred yards from the Autobot base. It was connected by a long tunnel with explosives built into the walls to collapse it if need be, on the off chance something terrible might make its way back to the base.

Wheeljack didn’t feel ostracized. He felt liberated.

They technically didn’t share a berth. Ricochet was supposed to recharge on the couch and the berth was for Blurr alone.

Those were the agreed upon terms, in theory.

In practice, Blurr on-lined every morning with a horny Decepticon wrapped around him, mouthing at the back of his neck and caressing his panels.

It wasn’t a terrible way to online. It’s just that in the week since Ricochet had showed up to safeguard him, he hadn’t recharged once on the couch. Of course, if Blurr was better at resisting temptation, maybe he could manage to exile Ricochet to the couch.

Blurr dragged out his closing routine. He half-hoped it would annoy Ricochet enough to leave. He might have also been delaying going home because Ricochet was apparently coming with him.

Jazz owed him several favors for this.

But weekdays were slow days so he'd spent all day cleaning and restocking and making his bar shine, which meant once it was time to close, he had nothing left to do.

Ricochet, he noticed, didn't offer to help. He was content to drink for free ("Put it on Jazz's tab," he'd said with a leer.) and take up space in a booth.
