See this!

*laughs* Seriously people. It's not the best acted, best directed, and it's not a super-Hollywood film (thank the gods) but it's incredible in so many ways and I'm about to tell you why.

At times both serious and hilarious, it's a great satire on homophobia and it makes fun of religion (in a good way) though super-strict Christians'd probably get offended by it. Then again, if you're a fan of mine and a fan of slash, then it shouldn't bother you one bit. Because it mocks all the reasons super-religious people claim that homosexuality is bad. Plus, it's a MUSICAL which is a plus in my book. And anything that has a bunch of fit, half-dressed, well-toned pretty boys dancing and singing on a stage is cause for thumbs up. My mother (yes, my mother of all people) and I were sucked into this movie and we loved it.

Ahem.

Let me give you a short summary. "The Big Gay Musical" follows the struggles and revelations of two main characters, who are the two stars of an off-Broadway production of "Adam and Steve: Just the Way God Made 'Em". One character is an openly gay man who is struggling to find "the one" aka someone more interested in a relationship than just a one night stand. The other is a closeted gay man who comes from a very conservative, religious family and struggles with telling his parents the truth, worrying how that might change their opinion of him.

What do I like most? (Aside from all the barely-dressed dancing, singing, and spot-on jokes???) is the fact that the two main characters aren't a pairing! In fact, they are very good friends who are supportive of each other in different ways and that's just fantastic. I have such a soft spot for good friendships.

If you love musicals, some of the music in this will really get you going. A few of the actors/actresses have very powerful voices. And some of the songs are as touching as they are funny. For instance, I laughed my way through "I Wanna Be a Slut" and I felt my heart clench through "As I Am".

Also, it totally mocks those "reprogramming" camps that are supposed to turn people straight by doing all these very gay things. I was cheering that on.

I also love how the main characters real lives parallel the lives of the characters they play in the broadway production.
