a/n: Two more flash fics here for ya. I got several more to write and soon to come. Please enjoy! And sorry for any possible grammatical errors.

For hockeyiris
Prompt: Ironhide, Lennox, birthday

Fandom: Transformers Bayverse. Warnings: None.

“I don't get it.”

Will frowns. “I know you've got access to the internet.”

“Isn't what I mean, Lennox,” Ironhide replies churlishly. “Your sparkling – your infant – isn't even mature enough to remember this, much less understand.”

“Your point?”

The Topkick shudders around him, the Cybertronian version of an aggravated sigh. “All this effort. Cake. Balloons. Presents. Invitations. Why bother?”

For a long moment, Will is silent. How can he answer this in such a way for Ironhide to understand? How can he put his maelstrom of emotions into mere words?

“When Annabelle was born, do you know where I was?” Will asks, fingers drumming across the steering wheel.

“Judging by your military service record--”

Will doesn't even want to know how easy it is for the Cybertronians to hack into government databases. “Qatar,” he finishes before Ironhide can. “I missed my daughter being born. When she opened her eyes for the first time, I wasn't there to hold her.”

The silence in Ironhide's cab is more than a little heavy.

“She might not remember, but I will,” he continues. “The first of many things I hope to see. Surrounded by friends and family, reminding me what I'm out there fighting for.”

He glances at the passenger seat and the neat piles of delicately wrapped gifts. At the beautiful cake and the large beribboned teddy bear.

“This is more for me than for her, really. In the end.”

“I see.” Ironhide's rumbling vocals hold a note of apology as though his confusion were an insult to Will. “Family--”

“Includes you,” Will says firmly, leaving no room for argument. “You saved my life. That makes us brothers. That's what matters.”

“Humans have a unique way of seeing things,” Ironhide rumbles, and then pauses. “I am honored, Will Lennox.”

“Just Will.”

“Of course.” The Topkick's engine revs, speed ticking upward to the low seventies. “We'd better hurry. We can't be late for her birthday.”

Will smiles.

For cptnsuz
Prompt: Saiyuki, end of the road

Fandom: Saiyuki. Warnings: implied character death, very much angst

'The end is coming.'

Sanzo snorts at the beggar on the corner, his handmade sign proclaiming the end of days. Hasn't he been paying attention?

The end is already here. The proof of Sanzo's failure stares him in the face.

Demons, not even Youkai, have overrun the land. Pouring out of the West, a gluttonous horde, their skin nigh-impenetrable. Absent of morals, they are nothing but killing machines.

If Gyumaoh had wanted rule over a blood-soaked world, he's already met his goal. And there's no one left to stop him.

A hand touches Sanzo's elbow, drawing him back into the relatively safe shadows of the alley. “It's not safe,” Hakkai murmurs.

“Nowhere's safe,” Sanzo snarls, jerking his arm away, though he does follow Hakkai. “Might as well get it over with now.”

Hakkai meets his gaze dully. Even he has run short of false optimism. His lips thin, thoughts turning inward.

“Is that your wish, Sanzo?” Hakkai asks, voice eerily soft. “Shall we surrender our lives then?”

Sanzo storms back into the filth-strewn shadows, away from the unsafe open. “I'll not die like a dog. That moron--” He cuts himself off, the pain still sharp and fresh for all that it happened more than a month ago.

“Yes. He would not have wanted it in such a way,” Hakkai muses aloud, one hand idly caressing the cuffs in his ear.

It hurts, the pressure in Sanzo's chest unrelenting. How can they continue like this?

He rounds on Hakkai, seeking an outlet. “Why are you still here?” Sanzo demands, struggling to keep his voice down. “Why didn't you join him? Or is he not as precious to you as Kanan?”

An eye for an eye. A knife for a knife to twist in the wound. Yet, Hakkai doesn't flinch. Maybe he's forgotten how.

Hakkai's hand drops from his ear, his lips curling in that eerie half-smile of his, always so unreadable. “I can't leave you alone, Sanzo. I made a promise, remember?”

Yes. A promise to a gluttonous monkey who couldn't prove to be invulnerable after all. A stupid monkey who couldn't keep any of his own promises.

Heat banks behind Sanzo's eyes. He blinks to chase it away, hands forming fists.

“Idiots! All of you!” he snarls and only just barely keeps himself from punching the brick wall, a tremble wracking him from head to toe.

“Yes,” Hakkai agrees. “We were.”

a/n: Again with the longer-than-your-usual-flash-fiction. I had fun still. These are great to write!
