Random Burble
Jan. 4th, 2011 08:32 amToday, I sat down and listed all of the shit that I'd like to get done in 2010.
....
It made my eyes hurt. There's SO much that I want to get done. I anticipate that most of it will happen, but just now looking at the list it seems daunting. A lot of it is rewriting and reediting old fics. Some of it is finishing up in-progress fics that have been languishing in hiatus. There isn't much new, but I know that will creep in no matter what I intend. *laughs*
So for some of you wondering on the status of several fics that I have in limbo, here's a little update to reassure you that I've not forgotten them, I'm not going to abandon them, and they will be finished... eventually. lol
What's going on fanfiction wise?
First of all, let's start with the %#$@# that Bleach has become lately. Something that's my opinion and you don't have to shout at me that I'm wrong. I'm just not happy with the direction Kubo has taken and I'm uninterested in the storyline. In fact, ever since he decided to *SPOILER ALERT* throw all sense of plot out the window, Aizen became Butterflaizen, and our dear Ichigo lost that which is the focus of the entire series... well, I just can't dredge up enough interest to read the chapters. The last one I read involved Ichigo in his part time job, and frankly, I don't give a flip. Bleach is still pretty to look at, but my brain no longer cares. Alas.
Still, I like fanfiction, I like writing, and fanfiction gives me the wonderful opportunity to pretend a lot of what Kubo did doesn't actually exist. Yippee. With that said, Bleach suckiness makes my muses not like Bleach so much, so some storylines are suffering as a result of it.
Case in point: The Butterfly Effect. This is, in effect, a rewrite of the Bleach series after a certain event was altered. In order to do that, I need to understand how canon works so I can alter it. The problem is, I don't understand how canon works because Kubo's canon doesn't make sense. (Again my opinion). So that's the brick wall I keep running into. I'm coming across a similar problem in The Beautiful Lie, but the difficulty with it stems from the fact I'm approaching a rather delicate part of the storyline and it has to be handled well or the whole fic will come crumbling down around me.
The Beautiful Lie is the closest to being finished. I've maybe ten or so chapters to write before I can call it complete. So on my Bleach to-do list, it's number one. I plan on sitting down, putting fingers to keys and churning out the last ten chapters ASAP.
The Butterfly Effect on the otherhand, isn't even a third of the way, or a fourth of the way done. There's the entire Soul Society arc to cover, my version of the Hueco Mundo arc, and then my version of Aizen's defeat. That's a hell of a lot of ground to cover. It requires an entire different frame of mind, too, and occurs in stages. Therefore, I won't pick it up again until I've finished The Beautiful Lie. I'm sorry, I know you've all waited a very long time. My goal is to have another chapter out by the time the one-year anniversary of the last chapter posted comes around. That's in April folks. But at least you'll have TBL to hold you off until then, right?
In the meantime, I've got a couple new Bleach fics on the horizon. They are shorter pieces, not as epic, and I won't start posting them until they are absolutely finished. One of them is called Playing with Fire and it's a Urahara/Ichigo, Shinji/Renji piece that I promised to
mandalee1013 ages ago and I'm being a procrastinator because Shinji's being difficult. This is fic is pure cracky smut and not to be taken seriously.
Buyer's Remorse on the other hand... now that one is sure to get me a flame or two. In fact, I'm expecting them. Just like I was waiting for the bad reviews to roll in on Of Violence, I'm anticipating them for Buyer's Remorse. Why? It's a rapefic for one (non-explicit because it's not so much the rape that's important but the aftermath) and it's written in a very disjointed fashion. Still, I'm super-super proud of the way this story is coming out and I hope that someone will enjoy it. It's a serious fic, not cracky at all, and I won't say if it's slash or het or yuri or anything because that's part of the mystery. You'll know as much as the characters do...
Non-Bleach wise... well, I'm going where the muses point me. I'd like to start dipping into other fandoms, especially Avatar: The Last Airbender as well as trying my hand at writing longer fics in fandoms I've only dallied in: Ouran High School Host Club, Fullmetal Alchemist, and a slew of others. I want to expand my repertoire. We'll see how well that goes.
Now, original fiction wise... I've got a hell of a lot more going on.
Let's start with what's in progress.
I know I tempted you all with In Darkness Dwells (IDD) and then promptly whipped it out from under your noses. For that, I apologize. I never intended to perform a bait and switch. Sometimes, internet legalities are new to us all.
Anyway, the first draft of IDD has been completed and after a read through, I've discovered it has some major, major flaws. In fact, the main plot (aside from the romance) doesn't make a damn bit of sense. So it's been going through a major rework and reconsideration. And now that I've got the kinks worked out, it needs to be rewritten. Some of the scenes will have to be changed completely, and I have to add in about 25K words of details more. Seeing more of this anytime soon is an impossibility, but I'll see if I can't sneak you some excerpts of the work in progress. At least some smutty bits, yes?
Shady Hill, my supposed to be NaNoWriMo 2010 fic that never happened because of computer problems. Ergh, I'm still pissed about that. I'm about seven chapters in, trying to work on it, but other projects are demanding my more immediate attention. I suspect I'll give it more effort as soon as I'm satisfied with my second draft of IDD.
Whispers of Yesterday, which is the sequel to the recently completed Edge of Tomorrow, has been finished and sent to the beta. At this point, I'm only waiting on her to send it back. This could take some time as she's also med student and that's rather time consuming. If you don't mind unedited pieces, however, I might be able to slip in the first chapter for all you eager beavers, and then upload the edited version later. Sound of good?
Wolf in the Fold, which is inching along in terms of updating. I've finally found a beta for this series (and all of War of the Animum) in general, so that's cause for celebration. I must admit, I shoved Wolf in the Fold onto the backburner in favor of working on IDD. I promise to bring you guys an update soon. Chapter three's done, but I want my beta to look it over before I post.
Aftermath. The remixed version. I actually found a potential online publisher for this, so I've removed the chapters from my website, and only let them remain here on my livejournal for those interested. If it gets rejected, I'll put the chapters back up, but *fingers crossed* it doesn't. I'd love to get some genfic out there, too!
And finally, The Break of Day, my choicefic for
freeficfriday and the prequel to the Infinity's End series. It's the story of how the war began, and how Kieran and Azriel met. It's a long fic that's written differently, style wise, for me. Because there's so much time to cover, I do a lot of time skips. I hope that it remains readable. Only the future will tell. I plan to start writing that this week, so I'm prepared for my January 21st post date.
Phew.
*wipes sweat from brow*
Kudos to anyone who actually read all of that. Did I miss anything? *grins* If I didn't mention the fic that's got you wondering "where's the next chapter?", feel free to comment below
