Jul. 22nd, 2009 12:26 amI am officially an idiot.
Case in point. In an effort to ensure that I never lose a copy of my files, I always make several copies of them every day to ensure I always have the most up to date version.
Well, this afternoon, before I left for work, I copied files over as usual, from harddrive to my flashdrive. Except that I failed to notice I was actually doing it backwards -- flashdrive to harddrive. And then, to top it off, I decided today was a good day to empty out my recycle bin, too.
Voila!
I come home from work only to find -- SURPRISE -- but chapter four and five of The Seeker were GONE. And chapter four was finished, with chapter five halfway there. So of course I panic.
Three hours, two recovery programs, and a brief moment of glee later I only managed to recover chapter four and nothing of chapter five. Now I can't remember all the awesome things that I had written. Apparently, my computer decided to rewrite over chapter five in the brief moments I spent between shutting it down and starting it up. *sobs*
I can only vaguely recall all the great stuff that I had down. And I hate rewriting. It's never as good as the original, especially since I try to capture the awesomeness of the original and in struggling to do so, make the rewrite horribly awful.
Ah, I don't even want to write right now.
