Today I bring you the last piece of flash fiction, submitted before the poll closed and the results of the poll. First, however, the ficcage!

Prompt: Urahara or Hisagi, “The Best of You” or “Plush”
Kisuke is from the anime/manga Bleach. Warnings for SPOILERS. Also, I couldn't help myself. There is implied Kisuke/Sousuke here.
He sits cross-legged, with Benihime perched across his knees, out of her sheath, blade gleaming in the candlelight. Nothing else is lit because Kisuke has always found that he meditates best in near-darkness, with the only sound to echo in his ears that of his own breathing, the beat of his heart, the shift of his clothes with tiny movements. He's in the smallest room of the shoten, furthest from any of the other residents, and sectioned off by itself.
He's surrounded by quiet. He's surrounded by stillness. There is only himself, Benihime, and his circuitous thoughts. There's the sound of his careful breathing, the rampant staccato of his heart, and the slow slide of his fingers down Benihime's blade. His reiatsu is rising and falling in steadying waves around his body, but it does no further than the walls. It won't alarm anyone nearby.
After almost a century, Kisuke is quite certain he knows how Sousuke thinks. He's sure that a massive confrontation is on the horizon. Physically, he's done all he can to be prepared. He's offered his advice to Yamamoto-soutaichou, he's handed over the tenkai kecchu, he's told his plans to Yoruichi and Isshin. All that's left is to follow through with them, to show up at the right perfect moment and end Sousuke.
Sadly, all that remains is the hardest part.
It should be easy. Kisuke has too many reasons to loathe Sousuke. Not even for himself. All he has to do is think of Shinji and the others. Poor Hinamori-chan. Kurosaki-kun even. Hisagi. Kira. All of the Shinigami that Sousuke's led astray over the years. Yes, even Gin-chan, who probably has no idea what he's really aligned himself with.
Kisuke can hate Sousuke for himself, too. For all the lies and misdirections and the
secrets. For all the broken dreams and cold sheets and nights spent flaying himself for what he should have seen or should have done. Kisuke has spent a century paying penance for a crime he didn't commit.
It's ironic. He spent so much time training Kurosaki-kun to grow stronger, to find his resolve, and here Kisuke sits, wavering in his own. He knows what needs to be done, but there's a small, reluctant part of him that wishes there was another way. That he doesn't have to be one of the hands to destroy his lover. But then, Sousuke brought this upon himself. He should have known this would be his end. In fact, it's almost poetic.
Rising to his feet, Kisuke slides Benihime back into her sheath and pulls on his outer haori. He grabs his hat and places it on his head, fingers lingering on the brim before he draws a deep breath and lowers his hand.
'It's time,' the world seems to say, and Kisuke agrees. He's allowed Sousuke to get the best of him once before. He won't let that happen again. He refuses.
So... this Friday we'll have another round of Flash Fiction. I'm off so I have the time to write. Go me!
But, first and foremost, the winner of the poll was... The Nameless. As usual, the slashy smut wins out in the end. *laughs* Though there was one curious vote for Not Listed, though the voter didn't clarify what would have been more interesting. As you can see by the chart below, it was close there for a while. BTW, thanks to nati_a for helping me snag the chart! I couldn't figure it out!
So starting May 1st, I will be working furiously on The Nameless, so I'll start plotting from now until then. During the month of May, I'll post snippets and word count updates as I'm working.
I'll also be updating The Beautiful Lie sometime soon and I should be bringing a new, brief and fun Bleach fic entitled Playing with Firepretty soon as well. Just waiting on the beta for some more chapters.
