Fanfic Rec: Fullmetal Alchemist

sky_dark 's amazing piece, The Adventures of Roy Mustang: Sex Ed Teacher, and it's two sequels Better Living Through Alchemy and it's in-progress sequel Life After Truth.
Why? Two reasons. One, because someone requested a RoyEd flash fiction last go around and I had her characterization stuck in mind for it and Two, I started rereading the series and by the time I got to Life After Truth, she had updated! It's like it was meant to be or something. It's wonderful to come back and find new material!
I don't think I could ever put into words what I love so much about this series. The characterization. The writing style. The comedy. This fic is one of the few that simultaneously makes me laugh and cry, makes my heart hurt and makes me go awwwww. It's also very realistic and she takes the time to explore ALL of the characters, not just Roy and Ed.
Havoc also finds love in the end: with a spunky OC that I adore. (she has a great talent for making OCs. I just love Otto, too). And LING makes an appearance. Now, the first time I read this series, I'd only seen the anime and not the manga so I totally thought Ling was an OC. Then I read the actual series in manga form and my jaw dropped. Ling was a real character. He's awesome, by the way, but yes, her Ling-voice is amazing as well. She really knows how to capture the characters. It feels like this could really be how the manga had gone, which I think is the perfect mark of fanfiction.
Not only that, but this series is LONG. If you want to get caught up in a long, well-written story to pass the time, this is the fic to choose.
Also, *SPOILER* but Al ends up with Hawkeye, which let me say, is the awesomest het couple I've seen in some time. I've always liked Hawkeye as a character, I just didn't like her with Roy. Same with Winry. She's allright, but I didn't like her with Ed. Al, yes. Ed, no. Though that's probably just the slash in me talking.
Of course, this trilogy isn't the only thing that she's written. She's got a slew of other FMA fanfic, all of them worth checking out. I'm a big fan of Candor which is another take on the RoyxEd pairing. She's also a fan of Ling, so he makes some fic-appearances with Ed.
So if you like FMA and haven't read Sky_dark's stuff (where have you been???) go do so now. You won't regret it!
