Just July

June was definitely a month. I feel like I accomplished things, but also that I blinked and it was over, so I'm not sure where the whole month went. lol

I definitely bent my focus to working on the Tethers universe and charged through a bunch of world-building for it. I edited out a huge backlog, and finished up a commission. I also made the decision to close commissions for now because I really just want to work on my own stuff. I need the money, but I feel like I need to focus on my personal ideas more.

Plans for July are to continue in much the same vein as June -- finish up short WIP pieces, edit A Tale of Two Geeks, worldbuild for Tethers, and if I can finally get their encounter mapped out, start writing arc one of Tethers. I've also got a massive amount of editing to do for Tethers, going back and updating the original fics so the language matches my worldbuilding now that Tethers is its own thing and not DND adjacent.

July is shaping up to be a pretty boring month, creatively speaking, but sometimes boring is good. Sometimes boring gets you on the right track. And sometimes you get smacked in the face by a surprising idea so.... -fingers crossed-

Phew. May was very, very productive. I completed so many things that I didn't expect to complete. I was on a roll! I finished three original fiction WIPs and started on two more. I made a plan of attack for a few other things, and powered through a couple of commissions.

May was a very good month! The only thing I didn't really accomplish was more editing on A Tale of Two Geeks, but since I wasn't feeling particularly focused on it, I didn't want to do a half-ass editing job, so I opted not to work on it.

Let's hope June can keep up the pace. Plans for June are to finish a couple more original short WIPs, get started on the first arc of Tethers, and dive right into my NaNo 2021 WIP. I hope to get it finished in the next couple of months, preferably before NaNo 2022 starts up. XD

And I hope to save up enough to keep buying art of my original characters. I want to see them all in the pretty, pretty hands of the best artists I can find.

Well, April was a whirlwind but the good kind of whirlwind.

I think I actually accomplished everything I set out to do in April! I got back the feedback on Loaf at First Sight and finalized it. I'll probably release it as a free read. I finished both first chapters of Death Deferred and All Things Considered. I also completed a standalone short story featuring a genderfluid unicorn shifter and a human. Despite how busy it was IRL, I accomplished my goals. Yayyyy!

So. What to do in May, hmm?

Let's see... my May goals will be to finish the rough first draft of Florian and Rhys' intro short story, the first time they meet. It's the prequel to the unfinished NaNo novel The Heist, and it's definitely a good starting point to introduce those characters. I'm about 2/3 of the way finished already so it's a reasonable goal for a month, too.

Working on A Tale of Two Geeks is so tedious because of the revising, but I think if I break it up a bit, it'll be easier. So for May I'd like to knock out at least thirty pages of Revision. That's a page a day just about. I think it's do-able and tackling it little by little will get it done faster than ignoring it. lol

And lastly, I think I'd like to figure out what the next short story I write would be -- either something set in the Tethers universe this time, or something set in Apocalypse Nigh. Ah, decisions, decisions. But I'm excited and that's what matters! ^_~

Phew. I swear the month's are passing by in a blink. It's already March and it feels like it should still be January, with me trying to figure out what I want to do with 2022.

Last month was productive and not-productive. I didn't get to mark anything off my list, but I did get things done, so we'll call that progress. I only got through about 2/3 of the A Tale of Two Geeks rewrite, but rewriting is so tedious. I couldn't make myself go any further, so I decided to work on a different project.

I got Fuss and Feathers sent out to folks for feedback so I can figure out what I'm going to do with it. So far the consensus is: good as is. So I'm going to tidy it up, add more details, etc. Then it'll be good for publishing or whatever. Not sure what I'll do. Release it for free or self-pub. I can't really afford a quality cover so I might just throw it into the universe for free. I'm undecided.

So in April, I plan to tackle Loaf at First Sight, another short story that will benefit from polishing and detail adding and worldbuilding. Then I'll send it out for feedback before deciding if I'll release it for free or try to publish it. Again, can't afford decent cover art, so I'll probably just release it for free. I don't expect to make any money anyway. XD

Two more goals in April --> To finish the first chapter of All Things Considered, one of my self-indulgent original pieces & to finish the first chapter of Death Deferred, another self-indulgent original fic loosely based on a Pathfinder game. I ported in the character I played from three separate ttrpg games, and then added two completely new characters. It's going to be very, very interesting.

Outside of that, I'll just kind of poke around at all my various projects to see what else wants my attention. I've been kind of restless and unfocused lately, so it'll be interesting to see what finally wins. :D

March is here, February is gone, and wow, 2022 is just zooming by faster than I could have expected.

February was very successful for me in terms of things I accomplished. I knocked out the final draft of Out of the Woods, and right now, it's pretty much ready for market, as soon as I slap a cover on that bad boy. I don't know when or if I'm actually going to publish it, but it's nice to have that done.

I also finished up Scars of Yesterday, and while I still need to edit for posting, it's done, and I no longer have that WIP hanging over my head. I also came to the executive decision to take a Transformers hiatus in hopes that taking a break will help the muses rest and revitalize for tackling the rest of my WIPs at a later date. I've been drifting away from TF fandom for months now, and it's been hard to stay inspired, but I hope a little hiatus followed by some binging of say TF Prime and MTMTE/LL will help reignite those muses. *fingers crossed*

I started working on the newest draft of the temporarily named A Tale of Two Geeks, and I'm hoping to have that finished by the end of March. I'm more or less rewriting it as I go -- some of the scenes have been completely revised, others just had some tweaking, I'm adding scenes and details as I go. I hope to get it in a state where I can then send it off to a couple of folks for some feedback about what else needs fixing. So that's my main goal for March.

I'll be hosting another prompt fest this month, so I'm looking forward to that.

I've also been jumping around a few original projects, working on first drafts for those. My completely self-indulgent fic "All Things Considered," another fantasy fic called "Death Deferred" featuring some characters from a Pathfinder campaign, and the introductory piece for Florian and Rhys from The Heist novel I worked on for NaNo 2021. I poke at all three here and there when I have the time.

Here's hoping March will be equally productive! <3

Well, I survived November, though it was a pretty close call for a minute there. Between holidays, vacations, responsibilities, work, Real Life drama and troubles, trying to survive, much less complete 50k words was definitely a challenge. But.

I did it.

Now my NaNo novel isn't finished by any means, but I have a solid 50 works on it and the prequel it ended up deciding it needed, so I'm calling that a win. Now I can set it aside and work on some other things while I let my brain catch up. Mainly, all of the editing I need to do, all of the commission rounds I need to complete, and all of the new commissions I need to start.

Not to mention somehow trying to get back on the Scars of Yesterday bandwagon to see if I can prod it into submission. I also want to go back to Out of the Woods and tackle it for the final rounds of content editing, and then the final round of SPAG editing so I can say it's ready for publication and put it on that list.

December will be all about trying to figure out my goals for 2022 as well. I want to accomplish more than I managed to eke out in 2021 on a variety of fronts so I have to sit down and create reasonable goals with reasonable expectations. Should be a breeze.

Right? XD

Happy Spooky Month everyone!

This month is my favorite time of year, not just because of spoopy season, but also because the temperature starts to change toward comfy, and I can break out the sweaters and the hot drinks and the leaves start to fall and ahhh, it's just magic.

October is also "plan that NaNo novel month" and that is absolutely item number one on my to-do list for this month. Sure I'd like to work on other things, and I'll list those shortly, but definitely the primo thing is making sure I'm ready to hit the ground running on November 1st.

Other things I'd like to do?

1) Finish at least two chapters of Scars of Yesterday now that I got my outline all sorted out

2) Edit Sinclair and Juniper's First Meeting short story

3) Become more active in my Discord server (somehow)

Those are all reasonable goals, I think. Short sweet and to the point. Here's hoping I can actually accomplish them. Life is a thing of ups and downs here lately. Woof.

Hope everyone has an appropriately spooky season! ;)

Phew. August was a lot crazier than I thought it would be. I only managed to tackle one out of the five goals I set for the month. Moving into the new apartment took a lot more of my processing power than I thought. And then at the end of the month, I get sent to work from home again, and I have to find a new rhythm again. Sheesh!

Well, maybe September will go a bit smoother, yeah?

Goals for this month!
  • Finish Scars of Yesterday chapter 13 & 14
  • Finish one of two recently acquired commissions
  • Finish the Nadia/Julian oneshot
  • Finish the Nym & Sinoun oneshot
  • Choose story for NaNo

There's a lot of writing on that list, but I hope if I can find my focus, I can sit down and get those words written. -fingers crossed-

dracoqueen22: (axelroxaslove)
Phew.

July had a lot of ups and downs for me, but it was largely productive, and I'm happy for that. I got my submission polished and finished for Violet Gaze Press' Monster Love Anthology, and fingers crossed it actually goes somewhere. I also finished the third draft of Out of the Woods. All it needs now is some feedback, some polishing, and then I think it'll finally - FINALLY - be ready for publication. \o/

In the meantime, it's time to set some goals for August, isn't it? Gonna keep this nice and relatively simple because August is a crazy-busy IRL month for me, so I want it to be manageable. I'm also taking a month-long hiatus from working on or writing any Transformers content in hopes that it'll help revitalize the muses.

Therefore August has mostly original content on the docket with one piece of fanfic that I hope to complete. The goals for this month are:

  • finish the Nadia/Julian oneshot
  • finish reading through Half and Half and make all necessary notations for second draft
  • Tethers Universe, when Tempest met Sinoun one-shot
  • Outline next novel in Apocalypse Nigh -- devil romance
  • Get productive feedback on Out of the Woods

Phew. I hope that's all reasonably doable. Sometimes my Plan Eyes are bigger than my Capability Stomach. lmao

Fingers crossed!

Good afternoon!

Here we are, midway through 2021, and it's going much better than 2020, that's for sure. I'm busy all the time now! How well did I do on last month's goals?

Three out of five ain't bad, and I at least made progress on two of the goals I did not manage to mark complete. I'm feeling good about that!

So what's on tap for July?

1. Finish at least one chapter of Scars for Yesterday
2. Finish second draft and finalized draft of Fuss and Feathers
3. Add at least ten pages to Out of the Woods for the revision
4. Edit everything in my editing backlog
5. Fully catch-up my private wordpress websites with all new content.

I think that's even more doable. July should be a much quieter month than June at least. Maybe I can even finish these goals and more! Here's hoping! :crossed fingers:
dracoqueen22: (mytimeisjustbeginning)
 Jubilant June everyone!

How did May go for me? Well, I tackled four out of five goals and that ain't bad! I feel mightily accomplished. Let's see if I can go five for five with the month of June, eh?
  1. Finish the rough draft of my submission to the Monster Lovers anthology
  2. Finish my The Arcana oneshot where Nadia pegs Julian
  3. Finish at least one chapter of Scars of Yesterday
  4. Add at least five pages of new content to Out of the Woods
  5. Write at least one ficlet/oneshot in my Tethers universe
A slightly different type of to-do list for June, but more in line with where the muses have been as of late, so here's hoping I can snag a very successful month this time around.

June's pretty busy on the Real Life front, too, so if I can squeeze all of this out despite that, I'll be one happy writer. ^_^

dracoqueen22: (mytimeisjustbeginning)
March went by a lot quicker than I expected it to, and it was full of... a lot.

In terms of the goals I started out with... let's see.

Well, I didn't finish Despicable Me, but I'm on the last chapter, so getting over the mental hurdle enough to finally race toward the finish line and complete it soon is definitely a success in my book. It'll be nice to finally be able to cross a WIP off my list.

Upon editing through Out of the Woods, I discovered I wasn't happy with it at all, so I sat down and read through it, and decided I needed to flesh out several things, fit in some better worldbuilding, and flesh out my characters for sure. So it's gone back to the drafting stage as I add new chapters and get more feedback, until it's something I can be proud of.

I did, indeed, set up my SubscribeStar, but in the process of prepping it, I discovered it would not suit my needs. The interface is clunky, it's not designed for writers, it's going to require a lot more energy to create and maintain my posts, and the whole system does not function as well for a writer as it might an artist or musician. So it's back to the drawing board for me in terms of monthly support.

I did not finish the outline for the first arc of Tethers, but I got some work done it, so let's consider that a partial win. Yay!

And I did host another Flash Fic Friday weekend, which was far more of a rousing success than the one I held in February so that was a complete success I plan on continuing every month as long as I have the time. Here's hoping!
